      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Winter 2023</image:title>
<image:caption>December 2003 Twenty years ago this month, we signed the lease on the Dog Camp property, the former Sonoma Appliances. We knew the building because we bought our appliances there when we moved to Sonoma. Driving to work one day, on her commute to San Rafael, Sue saw the “For Lease” sign in the window at 1061 Broadway, called the number when she got to work, and arranged for us to walk through the property the next day. We signed the lease that weekend. Six months later, on June 1, 2004, we opened Dog Camp. Happily June 1, 2024, is a Saturday. Consider this your “save the date” card for our 20th anniversary festivities.</image:caption>

<image:caption>You’ve probably met the newest member of our Dog Camp team by now. Isidro joined us a couple of weeks ago and has been working in the afternoons and on Saturday. He’s a Junior at Creekside High School. He’s a quick study, great with the Campers, and is going to be an outstanding member of our small team. Please introduce yourselves to Isidro when you see him.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Party Time Our decorations are up, the holiday play list is playing (1,210 unique songs), Campers are wearing their holiday collars and sweaters, the holiday sheets are on the sleep over beds, and we’re finishing up plans for our holiday celebration. We hope you can join us for our annual holiday in the lobby party. We’re taking advantage of the Winter Solstice falling on Thursday, December 21, to host our celebration on the first day of Winter. From 4:00 until 6:30 that afternoon, we’ll have snacks, drinks and fun. Even if your Camper isn’t in Camp that day, we hope you’ll have a chance to stop by and join the fun.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Winter 2023</image:title>
<image:caption>Upper Respiratory Illness in Dogs In case you’ve missed what we’ve posted on social media or haven’t seen the handout available on our counter about the canine respiratory illness that’s been in the news lately, here’s a recap. We’ve found UC Davis to have the most reliable information for our area on this issue. We monitor their site and encourage you to check it too. https://healthtopics.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/health-topics/mystery-respiratory-illness-dogs In their most recent update from November 28, UC Davis says, “Because respiratory illness in dogs is not tracked through reporting, it is not clear whether this represents a true epidemic or whether social media activity has contributed to what is known as an ‘infodemic’.” They report they’ve seen no cases in their clinic. We hear the same from our local vets. The steps UC Davis encourages for “owners of dogs that contact other dogs in the community” are: Ensure your dog(s) are up to date on their vaccinations; talk with your vet about what vaccinations they feel best protect your dog from respiratory illness. As of now, Dog Camp requires the Bordetella vaccination and recommends the parainfluenza vaccination. If you are boarding your dog(s): make sure their vaccinations are updated at least a week prior to boarding, use reputable facilities that practice good hygiene, do not board large numbers of dogs simultaneously (our maximum number for sleep overs is 10 Campers), and that require proof of vaccination. We will continue to monitor this situation and post updates on our social media; we are on Facebook and Instagram as Sonoma Dog Camp.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Oak tree behind the barn is starting to drop its leaves, the squirrels who run foolishly along the top of the play yard fence have slowed their frolicking, the loudest of the resident Scrub Jays demands his daily peanuts earlier every day, Campers are starting to wear their sweaters and hoodies to Camp, and we may have seen the last of this year’s pool parties. <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Fall 2023 - Thanks to You We Need Your Help</image:title>
<image:caption>In the last little while, our day care and sleep over attendance has returned to pre-pandemic levels. We appreciate all of you – long time Campers and those who’ve joined us during and post-pandemic - for sticking with us through times that tried us all. In the Spring of 2020, there were days where we had more team members at Camp than Campers – great for getting special projects done – but not so great otherwise. Now that we’re back to healthy numbers, thanks to all your support, we sometimes have days with a waiting list for day care. Most Campers are on a regular schedule for one or more days every week. If your Camper is one of those, and you know you are not going to be here on one of your scheduled days, please let us know as soon as you can. That will let us free up the day for another Camper. Thanks for your help with this.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Fall 2023 - The Dog Camp Team</image:title>
<image:caption>Safe. Secure. Social. You may have seen those Dog Camp watchwords on a team tee shirt recently. At their request, and much to our delight, the team decided they wanted to wear Dog Camp branded clothes to work; they asked for name tags too. Since the five people on the Dog Camp team (six if you include James in the count) are the keepers of “safe, secure, social” and are responsible for making sure we live that every day, we’d like you to know a little bit more about them. Briana joined us in August 2020 while on summer break from Sonoma Valley High School. She has been a stalwart member of the team ever since. She’s one of the people who greets you and your Camper at check in and sometimes sends Campers home in the evening. Elizabeth joined us in February 2021 with experience at another local dog care business. She brought new perspectives and a calm confidence so important to the energy in the play yard. Emily, a friend of and fellow SVHS student with Briana, joined us in October 2021. You’ll also see her first thing in the morning at check in and on Saturdays when she runs Camp for part of the day. We are happy she’s chosen to continue working with us while she continues her post-high school education. Lupe, a friend of Emily’s and the most recent SVHS grad (class of 2023) on the team, is someone you’ve seen more of since she graduated. She joined us in August 2022 and managed to become an important member of the team while finishing her senior year and working two jobs. What some would call a “go getter”. Josh is the most recent addition to the team, joining us in May of 2023. A former volunteer at Pets Lifeline, he has a quietly commanding “shhh” that the Campers have come to respect. Altogether, that’s almost 10 years of experience (30 if you include James) looking after the Campers at Dog Camp. As we head into what will be Dog Camp’s 20th year in business, we know we have the team in place to take us well into our next decade. Our training program, advancement opportunities, paid medical, dental and life insurance benefits, paid time off, and newly introduced 401(k) with our matching contribution will help us ensure the people you see on the team today will be the people you see on the team for years to come. That feels so good.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Since we began closing the lobby during the middle of the day on weekdays, afternoon pick-up hours have been 3:00 until 6:30. Effective Monday, November 6, we’re moving the start of afternoon pick-up to 2:00. Those of you who like to pick up your Campers on the early side will be able to avoid the school traffic you’ve encountered when picking up at 3:00. <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Fall 2023</image:title>
<image:caption>Fall Crop Report Our Camp citrus trees are promising to bear quite the Fall crop. When the Meyer lemons, blood oranges and cara cara oranges ripen, we’ll share them on the counter in the morning. The fruit of the past few years has been abundant, juicy, and sweet. We also have enough Bay leaves to supply the town of Sonoma. From a 3-inch-high seedling we bought at Sonoma Mission Gardens a couple of years ago, we now have a tree on the south side of the property that’s taller than the building. If you could use some fresh Bay leaves, just ask; we’re happy to share. Holiday Schedule If you need sleep overs during the upcoming holidays, now is the time to make your reservation. Everyone seems to be traveling again, and we do have a limited number of spots available. For a reminder of holiday hours, check-in availability, and three night minimum periods, check this link: https://www.sonomadogcamp.com/holidays All our best to all of you for a wonderful rest of 2023. Here’s to a fun and safe summer for all. As a reminder, our summer care protocols include: Ceiling fans on in the barn Misting fans on Small pool out on days when the temperature is over 85; large and small pools out on days over 95. Used water goes on the play yard plants at the end of the day. Frequent measurements of play yard surface temperature using our infra-red thermometers. <image:caption>This cold wet weather feels like Winter even though the Solstice isn’t until December 21. At Camp, we’re getting into the holiday spirit inspired by the weather and by Campers arriving in their Christmas and Hannukah collars and sweaters. For the first time since the pandemic began, we are reviving a Camp tradition – our holiday open house. It will be Thursday, December 15, from 3:00 until 6:30 in the lobby. The punch bowl will be full, and there will be savory and sweet treats. We sure hope you can join us. It’s been a long time.</image:caption>

<image:caption>You’ve probably met Adrienne by now, the newest full-time member of our team. We are so happy she’s here. Her experience and the strong skills she’s already demonstrated make her an important addition to the team. Here’s what Adrienne has to say by way of introducing herself, “I’m Adrienne. I am a dog mom with previous veterinary assistant experience. I enjoy my time at Sonoma Dog Camp every day simply because dogs make the world a better place! I look forward to meeting you and to giving extra love to your fur children.” And, by the way, she pronounces it “Adrian”.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Winter 2022 - A Great Resource</image:title>
<image:caption>Everything we do at Camp is based on our mantra of “safe, secure, social” - from how our building and play yards are designed to how we hire, train and staff. Every new team member, as they join the team, is asked to read (and is later quizzed on ) Off-Leash Dog Play – A Complete Guide to Safety and Fun, the book that guides how the team works with Campers. It’s an excellent resource for anyone wanting to know what “good play” looks like. The paperback book is available online in print and as an e-book and can be ordered at Readers’ Books in Sonoma.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A reminder that we have a resource list of trainers, behaviorists, dog walkers, and in-home pet sitters. We’re happy to provide contact information when you have need of any of those services. One of the trainers a few of our Campers have worked with recently is Belinda Head, owner of 2 Mutz Canine Good Citizens in Sonoma. We’ve seen excellent results from the work Belinda is doing – in her group classes and with individual training. See more @2mutzcanines, or contact Belinda for more information at (415) 948-7905.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Spring 2023 - Spring has Sprung</image:title>
<image:caption>The calendar tells us Spring arrived at 2:24 pm on March 20. The trees covered in blooms and the daffodils popping up all over town are right on time. But, these continuing chilly temperatures and rain showers don’t feel like typical Spring weather. Whatever “typical” means these days. Most Campers seem pretty impervious to the weather. Some choose to stay in the barn where it’s warm and dry, others love to stand in the rain. Some even sit in the play yard and stare up into the rain as it falls. Happy new season to all.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Spring 2023 - Speaking of Spring Green</image:title>
<image:caption>Thanks to the hard work of the good folks in the City of Sonoma’s Public Works Department (and a little perseverance on our part), we now have a green loading zone curb in front of Dog Camp. So, the days of having to find a spot to park down the street at drop off and pick up times should be a thing of the past. Remember too, there’s always the parking lot.</image:caption>

<image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Spring 2023 - Change is in the Air</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’ve asked to book a sleep over recently, you know that we have a big remodel coming up at Dog Camp. When it happens, we’ll be closed for day care and for sleep overs for 10 days. We’re waiting for final sign off from the City’s Building Department to plan the start date for the work. Our contractor has committed to starting the project six weeks after we get final sign off from the City. So, it’s a moving target which makes booking sleep overs a little challenging. As soon as we know the start day, we will let everyone know the dates we anticipate being closed. Whatever the dates end up being, you’ll have six weeks notice to make alterative arrangements for the time we’ll be closed.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dog Camp Updates - Update: Spring 2023 - Vaccine Updates</image:title>
<image:caption>Thanks to everyone for your continued diligence in making sure we have your Camper’s updated vaccine records. All of the veterinarians in the Valley are happy to send copies of updated records our way; just ask them to do it whenever you have your Camper’s vaccines updated. Campers who are overdue for vaccines will be asked to stay home from Camp until we receive updated records.</image:caption>
